Government on Friday put Hurriyat Conference (m) chairperson Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest at his Nigeen residence.
Shahid-ul-Islam, the spokesperson of Hurriyat (m) said that Mirwaiz was placed under house arrest ahead of proposed protests by the joint resistance leadership.

He said Mirwaiz was placed under house detention to prevent him from leading a protest demonstration after Friday prayers in downtown Srinagar.
The joint resistance leadership has called for protests after congregational prayers today against the use of force on civilians in Shopian district during a massive anti-militancy operation yesterday.
