India on Wednesday summoned Pakistani Deputy High Commissioner, Syed Haider Shah, to protest the escalation in ceasefire violations that has led to several fatalities and also over the mutilation of the body of an Indian soldier.
Shah was summoned to the Ministry of External Affairs and conveyed “the Government’s expectation that Pakistan will not take any step inimical to peace along the LoC and IB and to the security of India”, the MEA said in a statement.
The Pakistani official was conveyed India’s “grave concern and strong protest at the recent escalation in the incidents of ceasefire violations allegedly by the Pakistan side at the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB), which have resulted into several fatalities and casualties on the Indian side among civilians and security forces personnel.

The Government also registered its strong protest on the mutilation of the body of an Indian soldier by suspected militants who “escaped” across the Line of Control after committing the heinous crime, the MEA said.
The summoning of the Pakistani official comes a day after the Pakistan Foreign Office summoned Indian Deputy High Commissioner in Islamabad J P Singh to protest the firing on the border and civilian fatalities in Pakistan.
Yesterday, a team of UNMOGIP also visited LoC in Pakistan administered Kashmir (PaK) to oversee the ceasefire violations.
