17-year-old youth, who had sustained serious head injury, succumbed to his injuries at SMHS Hospital Srinagar late Monday evening taking the civilian death toll to 75 since July 09, 2016.
He was identified as Asif Majeed Nagoo alias Musaib, s/o Ab Majeed, resident of Sonawani Lakipora, tehsil Qaziabad in Kupwara district.
“We rushed him to SMHS Hospital on Sunday afternoon after doctors briefly attended him at Sopore hospital,” said Asif’s uncle, Sajad Ahmad Nagoo.
Sajad said that doctors conducted two surgeries on Asif before putting him on ventilator.
“One surgery was done in Neuro surgery section and second in main theatre before he was shifted to ICU ward-17,” he informed.
Asif was a non-medical class 12th class studying at Government Higher Secondary School Bomai.
“He was on way to Sopore-Kupwara highway when Asif sustained injuries,” Sajad said, “we rushed to the spot but did not find him there. Some people told us that Asif was shifted to Sopore hospital.” But, Sajad added, “when we reached Sopore hospital he was not there as police had taken him with themselves. After we got him to the hospital, doctors referred him to SMHS Hospital Srinagar.”
Sajad said that Asif stood topper in class tenth in his school. He passed matriculation from Apna Public School Wadoora Payeen.
His father is a small time business man and has two more children. Asif was eldest and his sister studies in class eight while his youngest brother is in class three.
“Doctors have found pellets in his skull,” Asif’s father, Ab Majeed told Kashmir Life over phone. “X-Rays of Asif’s head show it clearly.”
However, police have said that Asif fell down during protests and was hit by a stone causing injury to his head.
In SMHS, relatives of Asif are mourning his death, more so, are unable to go home this time. “We will leave at 4 AM,” slain Asif’s father said, “it will be Karbala in our home village when the body reaches home so we have decided to leave for Sonawani at 4 AM.”
