Intense pro-freedom protests erupted in Srinagar’s Barzulla are on Friday afternoon.
Local sources said that hundreds of youths took out a pro-freedom march after congregational Friday prayers ended.
“The youths made several rounds of the area,” sources said, “before stone pelting erupted.”
They said that forces chased away protestors who defied the forces restrictions and clashes erupted.
“Tear gas shells were fired inside the lanes,” they said, “people have covered window panes of houses and their cars with heavy cloth so as to save them from getting damaged.”
Similar reports of protests reached from Soura.
Local sources said that youths came out from Masjid Rehmat lane around 3 PM and clashes with forces.
“The protestors raising pro-freedom slogans were stopped by forces from moving ahead,” sources informed, “police and CRPF men fired several tear gas canisters to disperse them but youths showed strength to withstand the forces action.”
Sources said that faithful could not offer Asr prayers in the Masjid due to tense situation prevailing in the area.
Meanwhile, reports of clashes came from Shivpora area near the Indian Army’s Badambagh Cantonment where 15 Corps is based.
Reports said that after Friday prayers culminated, youths took to streets against the civilian killings in Kashmir valley.
Amid pro-freedom and anti-India slogans, the youths were marching towards the highway, however, a contingent of paramilitary CRPF men intercepted them, triggering massive clashes. The reports added that the forces smashed window panes of some houses and also beat up inmates.
