Railway police have registered a formal case against “miscreants” who vandalized railway property causing huge losses to the department in Pattan town of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

“Miscreants” also damaged railway track near Palhallan forcing Railway authorities to suspended train service between 6 and 9 AM on Friday morning.

Eyewitnesses told CNS that a group of youth appeared between Palhallan and Pattan railway track on Thursday shortly after the train carrying Chief Minister Ms Mehbooba Mufti left for South Kashmir. “As the security personnel deployed near the railway track left the area, scores of youth went on rampage damaging railway signal boxes, telecom boxes, LED lights and railway central boxes,” locals said.

A senior Railway officer said that both Engineering and Signal Wings are on job to assess the losses. “Preliminary reports suggest that miscreants have damaged property worth Rs 50 lakhs. All the LED lights that we had installed for the beautification of the railway station and tracks were damaged by these people,” he said adding that a case has been registered against the miscreants.

Reports said that after damaging the Railway property miscreants stoned the barracks of Government Railway Protection Force (GRPF), smashing windowpanes and furniture.
