MLA Pahalgam and National Conference leader Altaf Ahmad Wani Wednesday moved a privilege motion against Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed for allegedly ignoring him during Mufti’s day-long tour to Pahalgam constituency on Tuesday.
“I moved a privilege motion with a request to the Speaker Legislative Assembly to initiate breach of privilege proceedings against Mufti Muhammad Sayeed, his cabinet colleagues who were accompanying him and the senior officials of district administration Islamabad for not inviting me during their tour to my constituency,” Wani told media personnel in Srinagar.
“It was ‘unfortunate’ that the chief minister was on official tour for full day in the hill town but I was ‘not invited’ to the function,” he said.
“As per the rules, the authorities were mandated to invite me on this occasion being the constitutionally-elected representative of the said Pahalgam,” he said adding, “Their wilful conduct of denying me this constitutional right tantamount to breach of privilege of the institution of the honourable member.”
He also accused the chief minister of engaging in “political vendetta”
“National Conference would wait and see how the Speaker responds to his privilege motion,” he said.
“It is not the democratic way of functioning. He is the chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir and not of the PDP,” he said.
“PDP can’t replace elected MLAs with its defeated candidates,” a statement from National Conference said.
