SRINAGAR
Ahead of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Environment (PSCE) team’s visit to Srinagar next week on May 24, the civil society members are mulling to show the picture of depleting glaciers of valley to the visiting team.
“They [PSCE] need a presentation on depleting glacier and impact of Amarnath Yatra on environment in order to recommend regulation of pilgrim traffic to critical eco zones,” the civil society members said.
After Nitish Sengupta Committee, the members said, this is great opportunity.
“And they [PSCE] can study impact via Baltal and recommend stopping Yatra from that side,” the members said.
Mahant Dependra Giri could be made to meet them, the civil society members said.
Notably, there is a growing concern in valley over fast melting of glaciers. And, many committees have blamed the annual Yatra for triggering the trend.
