Srinagar: The Srinagar Ladakh highway, the only road connecting Ladakh region with Kashmir valley was thrown open on Friday after remaining closed for two consecutive days due to landslides at Zojila pass.
The highway was closed on Wednesday due to landslides at Several places of Zojila Pass including Bajri Nallah and Shaitani Nallah following which the road was closed as a “precautionary measure.”
An official from the traffic department said that traffic was allowed to move on the 434-kilometre road with the improvement in weather on Friday.
“Several light motor vehicles and trucks from Kargil side were allowed towards Srinagar at around 3:11 pm,” he added.
When contacted station House Officer Drass, he said that road was reopened on Friday around 3:11 pm from Kargil towards Srinagar, adding that more than 150, light motor vehicles and trucks from Kargil side were allowed to move towards Srinagar.
SP Rural Traffic Muzaffar Ahmad Shah said that the road was reopened from Kargil side towards Srinagar on Friday afternoon. “The decision to allow vehicles from Sonamarg towards Kargil will be taken accordingly,” he said.
