Mirwaiz Umar

A statement issued by Mirwaiz Umer Farooq’s Hurriyat Conference said that the government continued its oppressive policy of past seven years and placed him under house arrest late on Friday night at Nigeen residence which left majority of people who were waiting at Eidgah to listen to the Eid sermon of Mirwaiz, highly disappointed. The devotes expressed strong resentment over the detention of Mirwaiz on the occasion of Eid.

The incarcerated APHC chairman, however, addressed the Eid gathering over phone, and felicitated and greeted the people of Kashmir on the auspicious occasion of Eid-ul-Azha.

Mirwaiz said the government continued its autocratic policy of oppression even on the Muslim festival of Eid-ul-Azha as arrest and house detention of pro-freedom leaders continued unabated even on the occasion of holy festival.  He said such oppressive policy have failed and will continue to fail to muzzle the genuine dissent and the resolve of Kashmirs resistance leadership.

Condemning the repressive policies of the government that includes arrests, harassment and killing of innocents, Mirwaiz appealed the world human rights bodies to use their influence and build pressure on Delhi to stop committing war crimes in Kashmir.

Mirwaiz also presented the resolution framed by the Joint Resistance Leadership before the people and sought their unanimous support for its passage in the huge congregational Eid gathering.
