Angry over increase in sale of liquor in hilly area of Doda, dozens of women on Friday attacked a wine shop located on Batote-Kishtwar Highway at Assar, ransacked it and destroyed all the liquor.
As per the reports, the women of the area were demanding shifting of the shop from the area as per the judgement of Supreme Court, for quite some time.
However, as the wine shop was still running, about a dozen irate women today attacked the liquor shop and destroyed the liquor stored in the shop by throwing them outside the shop.
The staff of this shop had fled after pulling down the shutters when they saw the protestors approaching. The irate women further demanded immediate closure or shifting of the shop to some other area.
The agitating women said due to the wine shop, anti-social elements crowded in the locality. Men spent their hard-earned money on booze and then beat up their spouses They demanded that the wine shop should be closed down.
Deputy SP Doda, Iftikar Ahmed said that the police is investigating the matter and a case FIR No 11/2017 has been registered against the mob, which attacked shop, under Sections 379/452/427/353/511 at police station Assar.
