Aware of the situation prevailing across Kashmir, some of the concerned lawmakers made desperate attempts to reach out to separatists.
Some of them even attempted Mirwaiz Umar Farooq second time and managed sitting there for a few minutes, informed sources said.
Off late, the state government has restricted most of the separatists. While more than 2000 people have been arrested by the Ms Mehbooba Mufti led coalition government, all the senior leaders were either arrested or detained in their homes.
Official sources said that after Assadudin Owaisi failed to start a talk with Mirwaiz in the Chashma Shahi hut, designed as sub-jail, another group of lawmakers reached there with almost an hour long gap. Led by senior Left leader Sitaram Yechury, D Raja and Sharad Yadav were also in the group.
An police official privy to the development said that Umar told them that it looks odd for him not to greet his guests but the Hurriyat Conference has taken a decision of not talking, so that is it.
He told them that he has nothing to talk to, the officer said, adding it might have been a five-minute talk or may be slightly more.
They got almost the same response from Yasin Malik and Shabir Shah.
“Do not you think, it looks odd that you arrest a person and then tell him to talk,” one journalist, who has been covering the All Party Delegation’s visit said. “When a person is arrested, he lacks discretion of sitting and talking with a person who represents the government.”
The journalist said that there was a clear distinction in the use of discretion by two other separatist – Syed Ali Geelani and Prof Abdul Gani Bhat. “Geelani was home, shut his doors and kept quite and Prof Bhat greeted them in and said: sorry, we have decided not to talk.”
