In an emergency meeting of the executive members of Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK), RDA SMHS & Associated Hospitals, Society of Dental Surgeons (SCD) JK, it was “unanimously decided” that all doctor groups will “completely boycott” the All-Parliamentary delegation scheduled to visit Kashmir on 4th September.

“As part and parcel of the society and being responsible citizens of the state, we completely believe that JK is not an issue of development or an administrative issue or merely a law and order problem, it is purely an internationally accepted political dispute which needs to be addressed politically,” a joint statement issued by the doctors said this afternoon.

“All the above mentioned doctor groups are completely apolitical and we suggest that it would be better that main political stake holders be consulted to make the dialogue meaningful and end the ever ending cycle of violence in Kashmir,” the statement said.

“As doctors, we have been witness to tens being martyred, hundreds rendered blind, around 10000 injured and whole population has been kept caged in their homes from last 60 days. The injured include even 3-4 years old children, elderly women and men. More than 100 ambulances been damaged by security forces, tear gas shelling done inside hospital casualties and wards, hospital staff beaten and harassed by forces,” the statement added.

“Communication blockade, media gag has added to the miseries of the unfortunate population. 600 pellet victims with about 135 hit on both eyes have been brought to our hospital with all being a potential threat of losing their eye sight. The cries of 4-year-old Zohra with pellets all over body; 14-year-old Insha who has lost her vision, all her facial bones fractured; 85-year-old Zoona who was severely thrashed inside her home will haunt humanity for ever, if it all it exists in today’s world,” the doctors said.

“We appeal all the authorities at the helm of affairs to immediately stop the tyranny and oppression and show some respect to humanity. More importantly, we appeal the international communities to take a cognizance of day in and day out trampling of basic human rights in Kashmir and press for peaceful political end to this dispute. Unless and until the issue is resolved politically and peacefully, the cycles of violence would keep us tormenting again and again,” they said.
