Dozens of Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) workers including its chief and Langate lawmaker Er Rasheed were arrested Sunday afternoon after an anti-BJP march at Lal Chowk Islamabad in South Kashmir.
“The march was foiled by heavy contingent of police. The protesters tried to set ablaze BJP flag which was foiled by police using force,” an AIP statement said this evening.
Speaking to media people on the occasion, Rasheed said, “Kashmiris will strongly resist all effort to saffronize Kashmir and accused police of acting as private army of Sang Parivar.”
Earlier in the day, Rasheed addressed two public meetings in Islamabad at Krangsoo and Muniward.
Rasheed asked CM Mehbooba Mufti “not to act as mouth piece of Sang Parivar” accusing PDP led government of ignoring people of Islamabad at developmental fronts.
“Islamabad has suffered worst like other sensitive areas of state during turmoil and the successive governments have ignored this historic constituency for supporting resistance movement but now people of Islamabad have made up their mind to teach these political renegades a lesson. Hundreds of youth have been booked in fake stone pelting cases and let CM Mehbooba answer why not to withdraw all these cases against the youth as she was often advocating for the same when out of power,” Rasheed said.
