Paying homage to former Congressman Ghulam Rasool Kar, Communist leader Yousuf Tarigami narrated an instance about him that he was personally aware of.
Tarigami said that when he was part of the delegation led by Dr Farooq Abdullah to meet the then Prime Minister P V Narasimaha Rao, the Prime Minister was listening everybody and skipping any reaction.
At the best, Tarigami said, he was nodding his head. At this point, Kar Sahab said the “greatness of the leader” could have prevented India’s partition had he been a leader then. Tarigami said when we asked him about how it would have been possible, Kar said: “He would not have committed himself to any side by talking and the partition could have been avoided”. Tarigami said it was the political sharpness of the man that Kar was.
