The protests triggered by the removal of posters of Sikh leader, Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, by police yesterday, one protester was killed and over a dozen others were injured on Thursday in ensued and unabated clashes between government forces and a group of Sikh.
To register their protest against the removal of Bhindranwale’s poster, Sikh youth since Thursday morning blocked roads. On face of unabated dissent, government forces had to open fire to quell protesters at Gadigarh, eight km from Jammu city.
In forces action, protesters said, one person identified as Jagjit Singh of RS Pura was killed. Protests also left three cops injured.
Notably on Wednesday, an angry protester stabbed a police assistant sub-inspector in Satwari area of Jammu city for removing Bhindranwale’s posters.
To contain dissent, reinforcements of police and paramilitary have also been rushed to the area to prevent further violence.
