National Conference leader seeking re-election from Sonawari assembly segment in Bandipora, Mohammad Akbar Lone has property worth Rs 5.70 crore which includes 95.13 Kanals of land, Rs 40,000 cash in hand and jewellery worth Rs 5.10 lakh. Almost Rs 2 crore is self-acquired and the rest is inherited.
Known more for his index figure than his politics, former legislative assembly speaker and currently the higher education minister, Lone owns residential houses at Naidkhai, Humhama and Channi Ramma in Jammu as revealed by him in his affidavit submitted to Chief Election Officer (CEO) J&K. An LLB, 76 years old Lone has a liability of Rs 2.54 lakhs. He owns an immoveable property including 95.13 kanals of agriculture of which he has inherited 75.13 kanls. This land values Rs 7.5 crores. At his Naidkhie residence, he owns three houses as his spouse owns Rs 5.10 lakh.
In 2008, Lone had cash in hand of Rs 50,000 and 122 Kanals of land worth Rs 2.30 crores. He is understood to have sold his Bemina house that he had stated in 2008 but not in 2014 affidavit. Lone now lives in posh Friends Colony near airport.
Higher education minister Lone is contesting on the ticket of National Conference (NC) against his close rival of PDP candidate.
Lone remained in news during his tenure as speaker for having frequent quarrels with opposition party members. He once had an exchange of abusive language with former PDP leader late Molvi Iftikhar Hussain Ansari who passed away recently.
